선(禪) 언어에서의 미적 재현성(Representation)에 관한 소고(小考)

A Study on Representation in Zen(禪)‘s Language

본 고에서는 지금까지 선종[禪]에 관하여 논의된 미학에서 선(禪)의 언어가 다루어진 적이 드물다는 것에 주목한다. 지금까지 나온 ‘선종미학’에 관한 연구에서는, 선종과 미학이 주객미분(主客未分)한 상태에서 주객일여(主客一如)가 되는 것을 목표로 한다는 것과 일종의 집착 혹은 속박에서 벗어나 정신적 해방을 표현한다는 것에 주목하여 그 연구가 진행되었다. 이는 선종이 일다불이(一多不二)와 유무불이(有無不二)를 기본으로 하고 있다는 것에서 깨달음과 해탈을 미학사상과 연관시켜 보는 것에 초점을 둔 것이다. 이처럼 선종과 미학 사상을 연관시키는 것은 선종의 심오하고도 다소 모호하고 모순되는 개념에 대하여 보다 논리적이고 이해 가능한 방식으로 접근을 시도한 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 그러나 여전히 선의 언어는 그것이 담고 있는 함의가 무엇인지, 표현하고자 하는 실체가 무엇인지에 대하여 여전히 애매성이 존재한다. 이는 물론 선의 언어는 무엇인가가 표상되어 계속하여 존재하는 것이 아니라 상황에 맞게 어떤 진리를 표상하였다가 결국 타파되어야 하는 특성상 미학적 언어가 담고 있는 중도적 진리와 비교하기 어렵기 때문이다. 그러나 본고에서는 예술작품으로의 언어, 미학적 언어의 재현성(Representation)에 주목하여 선종에서 나타나는 선문답 혹은 화두참구, 시조에서도 이와 같은 재현성을 찾음으로서 선(禪)적언어에 대한 이해도를 높일 수 있을지 확인하고자 하고자 한다. 또한 선적언어에 대한 미학적 재현성(Representation)을 밝힘을 통해 선에서 말하는 ‘깨달음’을 어떻게 언어적 재현을 하고 있는 지에 대해 밝혀본다.

It is noted that the language of Zen(禪) has rarely been dealt with in the aesthetics that have been discussed about Zen Buddhism. In the studies on 'Zen aesthetics' that have been conducted aim to become one and the same as the master and guest in a state where the principal[主客未分, 主客一如] and the guest are the mental liberation freed from a kind of obsession or bondage. The study proceeded with attention to the fact that This is to focus on the fact that the Zen’s focus on relating enlightenment and liberation with aesthetic thought, The Zen is based on the principle of having and not being. In this way, the connection between Zen Buddhism and aesthetic thought can be seen as an attempt to approach the profound, somewhat ambiguous and contradictory concept of Zen Buddhism in a more logical and understandable way. However, there is still ambiguity about what the meaning of the language of Seon is and what substance it is intended to express. Therefore, paying attention to the representation of language as a work of art and aesthetic language, it is to check whether the understanding of Zen language can be increased by finding such representation in Zen dialogue, hwadu exploration, and sijo that appear in Zen Buddhism. It is clear that this is the purpose of this paper. In addition, by revealing the aesthetic representation of the language of Zen, we will find out how to linguistically represent the 'enlightenment' spoken of in Zen.
