생명보험 분야의 연구 동향과 시사점-리스크관리연구에 게재된 논문들을 중심으로

Research Trend of Life Insurance-Articles Published in Journal of Risk Management Over the 30-year Period

이 논문은 과거 30년(1989~2019) 동안 ‘리스크관리연구’를 통해 발표된 논문 중 생명보험산업 관련 논문을 대상으로 주요 내용을 리뷰하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 생명보험산업분야의 시대별ㆍ주제별 연구 동향을 살펴보고, 시사점을 도출함으로써 향후 생명보험 관련연구에 참고자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구 주제를 8개 영역(보험가입 및 수요, 유통(판매)채널, 경영전략 및 성과, 리스크관리 및 재무건전성, 자산운용, 상품전략ㆍ가치평가 및 보험회계, 계약자배당 및 상장, 언더라이팅 및 기타)으로 구분하여 각 분야의 연구들을 개략적으로 살펴본 후 개별 연구들을 정리하였다. 생명보험산업과 관련된 연구 동향을 살펴본 결과, 다양한 분야의 실용연구를 적시에 발표함으로써 생명보험산업이 건전하게 발전하는데 기여한 것으로 평가된다. 특히 보험회사의 경영전략 및 감독당국의 감독 정책 수립에 상당한 영향을 미쳤다. 다만, 최근 들어 급변하는 환경변화에 대응하는데 통찰력을 줄 수 있는 시의적절한 정책연구(policy/issue paper)가 다소 미진한 것으로 보인다. 아울러 연구자들의 구성이 다채롭지 못하다는 점도 극복해야 할 과제이다. 연구진을 전통적인 보험 분야에서 안전관리 및 재난관리 등 인접 분야로 확장하고, 새로운 분야나 현안에 대해 유연한 연구방법과 학제 간 융합연구가 장려되어야 할 것이다.

This research review offers a comprehensive overview of life insurance articles published in Journal of Risk Management over the 30-year period from 1989 to 2019. We classify the 66 articles by 8 topic areas such as ownership and demand, distribution channel, management strategy and performance, risk management and solvency, asset management, product/valuation and accounting, policyholder dividend and initial public offering, and underwriting and etc. Over the years, timely and practical research papers have contributed to the development of Korean life insurance industry, especially for the management strategy of insurance companies and the supervisory policy of regulators. Nevertheless, policy papers on pending issues such as market discipline of sales channels and research to cope with the new management environment were insufficient. Also, the research pool is limited to the traditional insurance area, so research personnel need to be expanded to adjacent areas such as safety management and disaster. Based on this, practical convergence research should be conducted.
