고령화 과제 해결을 위한 노년학(Gerontology)의 역할

The role of Gerontology for solving the assignment of the aging

본 연구에서는 우리나라가 고령화사회에서 고령사회로 접어드는 상황에서 Gerontology(노년학)를 활용해 고령화의 문제점과 과제를 해결해 나갈 수 있는 방법에 대해 살펴보고, 과제 해결을 위한 실행 방향성을 검토하였다. 우리나라는 2018년부터 고령사회로 본격 진입할 것으로 보여 인생 재설계 및 사회제도나 인프라의 재설계 등의 과제를 안게 된다. 미국, 일본, 유럽 등에서는 고령사회에 비전을 제시하고 국가와 사회적인 과제를 해결해 나가는 기폭제로서 현재 Gerontology가 그 역할과 기능을 담당하고 있다. 특히 미국에서는 1965년 「고령 미국인에 대한 법률(Older Americans Act)」이 시행되면서 Gerontology가 발전하기 시작했으며, 고령자 의료·간병, 비즈니스, 행정기관 등에서도 Gerontology를 적극 도입하여 성과를 높이고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 외국사례 검토를 통해 고려사회로 접어든 우리나라의 현실에서 고령자에 대한 올바른 이해와 가치관을 양성하는 Gerontology가 더욱 발전해 나가야 할 필요성에 대해 검토하였다. 이를 통해 고령화가 진전되는 데 따른 과제의 해결 및 실행 방향성을 제시하게 되었다. 또한 고령사회에 대응하기 위한 법률정비 방향성에 대해서도 검토할 수 있었다. 향후 고령사회의 실태와 본모습을 이해하고 바람직한 미래사회를 만들기 위해서는 Gerontology를 더욱 깊이 있게 배우고 실천해 나가는 환경을 조성하여야 할 것이다.

This research aims at not only examining the problems of the aging and the methods for solving, but suggesting the feasible direction for solving the problems by making use of Gerontology(A study about the aged) under the current Korean situation of coming to the aged society from the aging. Korea is expected to enter the aged society from 2018, where remodeling of not only life for the individuals but also that of social system or infrastructure will become upcoming social issues. In US Japan and Europe, Gerontology plays an important role in showing a vision for the aged society as well as being a catalyst for solving national and social problems involved. In particular, the enforcement of Older American Act in 1965 provoked the development of Gerontology in US, enabling not only the medical treatment and long-term care of the aged but a related business and administrative agency to actively introduce Gerontology and to make a decent performance. Thus this research examined the necessity for developing Gerontology which contributes to enhancing the right understanding and values about the aged in Korea's current situation of approaching the aged society by reviewing the foreign examples, through which it tried to not only solve the problems stemming from the propelled aging and also suggest the feasible direction. This research also tried to examine the directionality for legal arrangement in coping with the aged society. It is required to create the environment for deeply learning and practicing Gerontology in order to not only understand the actual aspect of the aged society, but also create desirable upcoming society.
