19세기 후반 개항장(부산·인천·원산) 무역 데이터를 통한 미곡의 수탈적 유출에 대한 분석

Analysis on the Rice Trade Data of Korea in Late 19th Century

본 연구는 『조선통상삼관무역책』에 기록된 19세기 후반 무역 데이터를 활용해 개항기일본에 의한 조선 미곡의 수탈적 유출을 분석한다. 주요 해외 국가와의 수출 비중을 조사한 결과, 조선에서 일본으로의 수출이 평균적으로 95%를 차지하고 있었다. 또한, 주요수출품인 미곡 가격을 중심으로 유출 정도를 분석한 결과, 적정 가격의 약 72%가 수탈적으로 유출되었다. 이 같은 결과는 사실상 20세기에 이루어진 일본에 의한 조선 식민통치의 전사(前史)에 해당하는 것으로 평가할 수 있을 것이다.

This paper investigates the degree of economic extraction by Japan in the late 19th century of Korea by examining the trade data issued by Chosun. We find that on average the export to Japan from Chosun accounts for 95% of the total export with the main foreign countries near Chosun. Using the rice trade data, we further identify the price extraction by Japan. These empirical results imply that in the late 19th century, Japan already started to exert its influence on the Chosun economy in order for colonization.
