『說文解字』 540部首의 形相·義相 系聯 考察(2)

A Study on the Relationship between Shape and Meaning in 540 Radicals of 『Shuowen Jiezi』 : Focus on 30 Radicals of 「Volume 2, Part 1/2」

『說文解字』는 한자의 체계적인 자전으로서 최초라 할 수 있는데, 특히 部首를 개발하고 적용하여 특정 글자의 검색을 쉽게 하였다는 점이 더욱 그러하다. 다만 음양오행에 근거하여 설정한 540개라는 적지 않은 부수의 개수는 검색에 있어서 뜻밖의 불편함을 야기하였다. 이때 허신은 부수의 순서를 부수의 형체의 연결인 形相과 의미에 연결인 義相을 이용하여 배열하였다. 이 논문은 이 계련의 形相과 義相을 분석하고 검증하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 앞서 『說文』「卷一」의 14개 부수를 대상으로 ‘系聯’을 고찰하였으며, 이번 논문은 『說文』「卷二·上/下」 15小∼44冊의 30개 부수의 ‘系聯’을 고찰하였다.

The Shuowen Jiezi(『說文解字』) is a systematic self-exposition of Chinese characters, and can be considered one of the earliest works of its kind. Notably, it developed and applied the concept of radicals(部首) to facilitate the search for specific characters. However, the significant number of 540 radicals, established based on yin-yang and the Five Elements(음양오행), unintentionally caused inconvenience in searching. To address this, Xu-shen(허신) organized the radicals using the order of their visual forms(形相) and their meanings(義相). This paper aims to analyze and validate these correlations of visual forms and meanings. While the previous study focused on 14 radicals from Volume 1 of the Shuowen Jiezi, this paper examines the correlations of 30 radicals from ‘Volume 2, Part 1/2’, spanning from Radical 15(小) to Radical 44(冊). Specifically, this paper is the second one following the previous study. The research has uncovered several distinctive findings, all of which are elaborated in detail in the main body. I intend to examine the correlations of all 540 radicals from the survey participants in the future.
