The purpose of this article is to explore the concept of nature and the orientation of nature in Rousseau’s educational theory. The findings of this study unveil Rousseau’s concept of nature as one that is dynamic and progressive. In addition, the orientation of nature is developing in the following three directions: firstly, the cultivation of a liberated individual with subjectivity; secondly, the forming a moral person with a conscience by preserving self-love (amour de soi); and lastly, the development of reason. Through these reviews, we were able to examine the close relationship between Rousseau’s concept of nature and education. In addition, we were able to confirm the firm position of intellect and reason, which had been overlooked, in Rousseau’s orientation of nature.
