The purpose of this article is to justify educational authority. In Korean society where authority is being lost, to restore educational authority is an urgent task for the future of education. Educational authority can be justified in the following four aspects. First, educational authority is essential to transfer knowledge and tradition to students. Second, in order for educational authority to be recognized, some reasonable reasons must be inherent in the instructions or remarks of teachers. Third, the establishment of educational authority never conflicts with student’s autonomy. Fourth, educational authority should be aimed at the educational interests of students. But the meaning of student’s interest is not rely on his or her psychological tastes or desires but a concept that must be guided by teacher’s educational consideration.
