이 연구에서는 한국 사회가 마주한 난민 담론을 환대의 관점으로 풀어내고자 한다. 환대는 이주자들에게 분리 불가능한 경험이기 때문에, 한국 사회 속 난민들에게 환대가 어떻게작동하는지를 분석하고자 하였다. 이 연구에서는 2018년 예멘 난민과 2021년 아프가니스탄 특별기여자라는 무슬림 난민 사례에 주목하면서, 한국 사회에서의 서아시아 출신 무슬림들이 이주민이라는 지위를 넘어 어떻게 인종화되고, 때로는 이슬람에 대한 편견으로 어려움을 겪는지 현지조사를 통해 확인하였다. 사례연구에서 아프가니스탄 특별기여자들의정착지인 울산을 방문하여 사회적 환대가 어떻게 이주민의 안정적인 정착에 기여할 수 있는지를 살펴보았다. 본 연구를 통해 한국 사회에서 이주민과의 공존은 다가올 미래의 모습이며 이를 위해 사회 전반적인 환대의 환경과 문화 포용 프로그램의 필요성에 대해 환기하고자 한다.
This study aims to unpack the refugee discourse in Korean society through the prism of hospitality. As hospitality represents an inseparable facet of the migrant experience, this research endeavors to scrutinize how the hospitaltiy manifests in the context of refugees residing in Korean society. Focusing on the cases of Yemeni refugees in 2018 and Muslim refugees from Afghanistan in 2021, this study employs fieldworks to explore how Muslims from West Asia in South Korean society undergo racialization beyond their status as migrants and sometimes struggle with prejudice against Islam. In this case study, we had filedworks in Ulsan, a settlement for Afghanistan Special Contributors, to explore how social hospitality can contribute to the stable settlement of migrants. Through this research, we aspire to elevate awareness regarding the imperative necessity for hospitable environments and culturally immersive integration programs, which are pivotal for the future of harmonious coexistence with migrants within Korean society.
