二雅堂 李重夏의 白頭山 登頂 漢詩 연구

A study of Chinese poetries written by Yi-a-dang Joong-ha Lee while climbing Baek-du Mountain

본 연구는 관료 출신 二雅堂 李重夏(1846~1917)가 19세기 말 土門勘界使로서 청나라 관료들과 함께 두 차례에 걸쳐 백두산에 등정하는 동안에 읊은 한시의 특징과 그 의의에 주목한 것이다. 이아당은 1885년(고종 22) 安邊府使 재임 시절 1차 土門勘界의 명을 받았다. 그리고 그해 9월, 청나라에서 파견된 관원 德玉·賈元桂·秦煐(또는 秦瑛) 등과 함께 백두산에 올라 답사를 하며 국경 문제에 대해 달포를 논쟁했으나 끝내 결말을 보지 못하고 돌아왔다. 그로부터 2년 뒤인 1887년(고종 24) 3월 그는 德源府使 재임 시절 2차 토문감계의 명을 받고 백두산을 다시 다녀왔다. 이때 감계를 마치고 돌아온 그는 두 차례에 걸쳐 가졌던 회담의 경과와 백두산정계비의 지형, 쟁점에 대한 양측의 입장을 자세히 정리한 『勘界使謄錄』을 남겼다. 그 『『감계사등록』에는 그가 백두산 정상까지 다녀온 일을 기록한 ｢白頭山日記｣가 수록되어 있다. 이아당의 詩集인 『이아당집』에는 안변부사와 덕원부사 시절과 두 차례 백두산을 등정을 하며 읊은 67題 78首의 한시가 <北塞賸墨>으로 묶여 있다. 『감계사등록』의 ｢백두산일기｣에는 제목이 없는 한시 5수가 실려 있는데 그중 3수는 <북새잉묵>에 중복 수록되어 있다. 이아당의 백두산 등정 관련 한시는 크게 풍경시, 정회시, 교유시로 분류할 수 있는데, 이 시들을 통해 그의 문학적 역량을 충분히 확인할 수 있었다. 이처럼 본 연구는 그동안 그를 외교 전문가로서의 역할에 중점을 두고 평가한 것에 나아가 문인으로서의 위치를 확고하게 해주었다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

This study is about the characteristics and significance of the Chinese poems recited by Iadang Joong-ha Lee(1846-1917), a former government official, while climbing Mt.Baekdu twice with officials from the Qing Dynasty at the end of the 19th century. In 1885, when he was serving as governor of Anbyun, Iadang received the order of the first Tomoon Gamgye. And in September of that year, he climbed Mt. Baekdu with officials dispatched from the Qing Dynasty, such as Deok-ok, Ga Won-gye, and Jin-young, to discuss the border issue, but returned without seeing the end. Two years later, in March 1887, he climbed that Mt again as a governer of Duk-won after received the order of the second Tomoon Gamgye. At this time, after returning from that Mt, he wrote “Gamgyesa-Deung-rok”, which detailed the progress of the talks held on two occasions, the topography of the Mt. Baekdu, and the positions of both sides on the issues. In the “Gamgyesa-Deung-rok”, he recorded his trip to the top of Mt. Baekdu. In Iadang's collection of poetry, “Iadang Collection”, plenty of his Chinese poems recited while he climbing Mt. Baekdu were grouped into “Buksaeseungmok”. The “Baekdu Mountain Diary” in “Gamgyesa-Deung-rok”s contains 5 untitled Chinese poems, 3 of which are duplicated in “Buksaeseungmok” too. Iadang's Chinese poems related to the ascent of Mt. Baekdu can be largely classified into landscape poems, feeling sharing poems, and friendship poems, and socializing poems. Through these poems, his literary competence is sufficiently confirmed. As such, this study is meaningful in that it has evaluated him with an emphasis on his role as a diplomatic expert and has solidified his position as a literary person.
