현대시 인공지능(AI) 번역의 오류 양상 연구

A Study on the Error Patterns of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Translation in Modern Poetry: Focusing on the Translation Results of Kim So-wol's Poem Using Chat GPT-3.5

본 연구는 인공지능 번역기의 현대시 번역결과물을 분석·평가하여 문학번역 영역에서의 인공지능 번역기의 활용 가능성을 고찰하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 형태 층위에서 ‘단순 어휘 누락 오류’는 거의 발생하지 않았으며, 이는 인공지능번역 알고리즘이 원전의 구성 요소를 가능한 한 전부 번역하는 방식을 취하고 있음을 의미한다. 둘째, ‘표기법 오류’는 자주 나타나는 오류 유형으로 아직은 인공지능 번역기가 자연어 처리 과정에서 단어의 어형 변화를 인식하는 데 어려움이 있음을 보여준다. 셋째, ‘고유어’ 처리 능력은 사전에 학습한 코퍼스와 관련된 것으로, ChatGPT-3.5의 학습데이터에 없는 단어는 번역처리를 제대로 할 수 없었다. 넷째, ChatGPT-3.5가 반어, 역설, 반복과 대칭, 영탄과 같은 시적 의미를이해하고, 창의적인 번역이 가능함을 확인하였다. 본 연구에서는 문학 번역결과물의 품질을 평가하기 위한 지표를 개발하고, ChatGPT-3.5의 현대시 번역 활용 가능성을 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구에 나타난인공지능 번역기의 취약점은 번역과정에서 발생하는 오류 원인을 예측할 수 있게 한다는 점에서 기계번역의 알고리즘을 개선하는 데 참조할 수 있는 근거가 될 것이다.

This study examined the possibility of using AI translators in literary translation. First, 'Missing words' rarely occurred. The AI translation algorithm has a method of translating all source text. Second, 'Typo' often appears. This means that natural language processing is difficult. Third, the 'Native word' translation cannot process words that AI has not learned. Fourth, AI understands the poetic meaning and enables creative translation. This study is the first to develop evaluation indicators for literary translation and examine the possibility of AI's use of modern poetry translation. In addition the vulnerability of the artificial intelligence translator investigated in this study can predict the cause of the error.
