《幽梦影》一书由 219 则正文及 681 条时人评点构成。据考，书中正文非一次性完成，其创作至少历经 17 年之久。附录于正文条目之下的评点始于正文写作之初，但在作者广泛邀评以及读者“附翼以传”意愿的驱动之下，评点并未因正文条目集结成册而终止，而是在《幽梦影》成书后亦持续 10余年。时人评点的收集影响了该书数次付梓的进程，作者对评点的辑纂更是决定了此书最终的样貌。

The book ‘Quiet Dream Shadows’ consists of 219 main texts and 681 contemporary comments. According to research, the main text of the book was not completed in one go, and its creation took at least 17 years. The comments attached to the main text entries began at the beginning of the writing process, but were not terminated due to the author’s extensive invitation for comments and the reader’s willingness to ‘attach wings for transmission’. Instead, they continued for more than 10 years after the completion of ‘Quiet Dream Shadows’. The collection of comments by contemporary scholars affected the process of several publications of the book, and the author’s compilation of the comments also determined the final appearance of the book.
