청소년기 시각장애여성의 BMI지수와 외모 인식 및 만족도 분석

Analysis of BMI, Appearance Perception and Satisfaction of Visually Impaired Teen Girls

이 연구는 청소년기 시각장애여성이 희망하는 BMI(Body Mass Index)지수와 외모 인식 및 만족도를 조사ㆍ분석하고, 외모 인식 및 만족도가 행복감에 미치는 영향력을 알아보는데 목적을 두었다. 연구를 위해 14～24세의 청소년기 시각장애여성 65명의 설문 응답 자료를 분석하였으며, 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 청소년기 시각장애여성의 실제 BMI지수는 정상체중이 43.8%로 가장 많았으나, 희망 BMI지수는 저체중이 82.8%로 가장 많았다. 둘째, 청소년기 시각장애여성 중 외모 중요도를 높게 인식하는 사람은 20.0%,인데 반해, 외모 관심도를 높게 인식하는 사람은 41.5%로 나타나 외모 중요도를 다소 낮게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 청소년기 시각장애여성 중 얼굴에 대한 만족도가 높은 사람은 18.5%인데 반해, 신체에 대한 만족도가 높은 사람은 4.6%로 나타나 신체에 대한 만족도가 비교적 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 외모 중요도가 낮은 여성이 보통 혹은 높은 집단에 비해 얼굴에 대한 만족도가 높게 나타났다. 넷째, 청소년기 시각장애여성의 외모 인식 및 만족도가 행복감에 미치는 영향력을 분석한 결과, 외모 인식의 하위요인인 외모 관심도와 외모 만족도의 하위 요인인 얼굴 만족도가 행복감에 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구 결과들이 주는 시사점과 향후 청소년기 시각장애여성의 행복감 증진을 위한 방안에 대하여 몇 가지 논의하였다.

The aim of this study is to investigate and analyze BMI(Body Mass Index), appearance perception, and satisfaction of visually impaired teen girls and explore the influence of appearance perception and satisfaction over happiness. Response data among 65 visually impaired teen girls ranging from 14-year-old to 24-year-old was analyzed for this research and major results are presented as follows. First, their actual BMI showed that normal weight accounted for 43.8% ranked as top, while desired BMI revealed that low weight primarily accounted for 82.8%. Second, 20.0% of visually impaired teen girls highly considered the importance of appearance, while 41.5% highly recognized the level of interest in appearance. This indicates that they are slightly less aware of appearance. Third, 18.5% of them were highly satisfied with facial appearance; on the contrary, only 4.6% were found to be highly satisfied with their bodies. This finding suggests that they are comparatively less satisfied with their bodies. Women who consider appearance less important were highly satisfied with facial appearance than other groups with moderate or higher significance on appearance. Fourth, the influence of appearance perception and satisfaction of visually impaired teen girls over happiness showed that the level of interest in appearance as a subfactor of appearance perception and facial satisfaction as a subfactor of appearance satisfaction were found to have positive effects on happiness. This study discussed a couple of implications and methods for enhancing their happiness from the above results.
