Awareness of War and Immunity: Focusing on the case of World War and Joseph Pilates

인간 신체의 질병 및 건강 문제와 연관하여 가치 문제를 규범화한 영역은 인문의학이다. 인문의학은 ‘인간’ 문제를 중점적으로 탐구하는 분야로 사회 환경과 자연 환경에서 질병의 원인을 탐구하고 있는 자연의학과 사회의학으로 구분된다. 전염병의 역사에서는 일찍부터 각종 정책을 통해 시민들의 건강과 질병 관리를 해왔던 것을 확인할 수 있다. 1918년 발생한 인플루엔자는 강한 전염성으로, 젊고 건강한 20-30대 성인들에게 전파되고, 그들의 사망률이 높다는 특징을 보인다. 신체 활동을 적극적으로 활용하여 면역력을 높인 인물로 알려진 요제프 필라테스(Joseph Pilates, 1883-1967)는 1차 세계대전 시기 부상당한 군인들의 회복 및 스페인 독감으로부터의 생존을 위해 중요 역할을 하였다. 그는 “건전한 신체에 건전한 정신”이라는 모토를 바탕으로 신체와 정신을 동시에 강화시키는 방안을 탐구하였는데, 1918-1919년 스페인 인플루엔자가 확산되었을 때, 필라테스의 운동 프로그램에 동참했던 동료 수감자들은 다른 수용소 수감자들과는 달리 감염자가 거의 없었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 세계 대전과 필라테스의 사례를 중심으로 전쟁과 면역력에 대한 인식 변화를 살펴봄으로써 코로나 19로 인한 팬데믹 현상으로 면역력과 신체 활동 및 건강과 위생 문제에 대한 관심이 증대된 사회 현상에 대해 접근해 보고자 하였다.

In the field of research that intensively explored the collective form of humans, interest in the ‘human body’ is increasing. “Sociology of the Body” is recognized as an independent field of sociology that studies society. At the same time as the Western industrialization and modernization process developed, the perception of the human body was transformed together. Humanities medicine is the area that standardizes value problems in relation to diseases and health problems of the human body. In the history of infectious diseases, it can be seen that citizens’ health and disease management have been managed through various policies since early on. The 1918 influenza outbreak was highly contagious and spread to young, healthy adults in their 20s and 30s. Joseph Pilates put forward the motto of “a sound mind in a sound body”. This study aims to study changes in perception of war and immunity. COVID-19 Pandemic Is Increasing Interest In Immunity And Physical Activity And Health And Hygiene Issues. We tried to approach social phenomena with increased interest in health and hygiene issues with a wide spectrum.
