기능의학적 IVNT는 영양수액라는 명칭으로 인해 아미노산 수액이나 TPN 수액과 혼동되는 개념으로 사용되는 경우가 많다. 하지만 IVNT는 아미노산 수액, TPN 수액과는 성분의 구성과 목적이 다르다. IVNT는 구성 성분에 따라 만성 피로 완화, 간 해독, 암 환자의 항암 효과, 항암화학요법 부작용 완화 등을 위해 적용될 수 있다.
