젠더갈등 이슈가 20대 대통령후보 평가와 투표에 미치는 영향

The Impact of Gender Conflict Issues on Evaluation and Vote Choice of Candidates : The Case of the 20th Presidential Election

최근 우리사회에서 젠더갈등이 지역, 이념, 세대와 더불어 새로운 갈등으로 부상하는 가운데 20대 대통령선거를 통해 유권자의 관심이 집중되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 청년세대 남녀 간 갈등으로 취급되었던 젠더갈등 이슈가 20대 대통령선거에서 쟁점으로 부각되면서 유권자의 주요 정당 대통령후보에 대한 평가와 투표선택에 어떤 영향을 주었는가를 경험적으로 분석하는 것이다. 당시 논쟁이 되었던 젠더갈등 이슈로 여성가족부 폐지를 비롯해 여성할당제 폐지, 여성 병역의무화, 남성 육아휴직이며, 주요 정당의 대선후보 평가를 후보 호감도와 국정운영 능력 평가로 분석한 결과 윤석열 후보와 이재명 후보의 호감도와 국정운영 능력 평가 전반에 지속적으로 영향을 미친 젠더갈등 이슈는 여성가족부 폐지였다. 또한 여성가족부 폐지 외 두 후보의 평가에 영향을 준 젠더갈등 이슈는 여성 병역의무화와 남성 육아휴직이었다. 마지막으로 두 후보에 대한 유권자의 투표결정에 영향을 준 젠더갈등 이슈는 여성가족부 폐지로, 여성가족부 폐지가 유권자의 대선 후보자에 대한 전반적인 평가는 물론 투표 선택에도 결정적 영향을 준 선거의 쟁점 이슈임을 여실히 증명했다.

Gender conflict has regarded as the major conflict between male and female in 20’s. However, gender conflict emerges one of the social cleavage which influences election and politics in Korea regardless of gender and generation. The purpose of this paper is to examine whether gender conflict issues which related to abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, abolition of women’s quota system, women’s mandatory military system, and paternity leave affect the evaluation about presidential candidates of major parties and vote choice between them. The empirical result show that the gender conflict issue related to abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has a signigicant impact on feeling thermometer and the evaluation of both candidates from major Parties. In additions, issues related to women’s mandatory military system and paternity leave also affect the evaluation of candidates. The issues related to abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family is the only factor which influences the vote choice between two presidential candidates in the election.
