Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the process in which young children lead the construction of knowledge through outdoor play experiences, and to provide teachers with implications for outdoor play support measures. Methods: The study was conducted through the participatory observation of 26 children in the Zelkova tree class of kindergarten B located in A city, K region, and visual research methods, interviews, and the collected data were analyzed from the constructivist perspectives. Results: First, the children immersed themselves in exploring activities to achieve their goals depending on their respective interests. Second, the children experienced perceptive unbalance status through the issues understood as preconceptions or not explained during outdoor playtime. Finally, the experiences of solving the problem during play- time through collaboration with their peer group provided a chance to break the stereotyped framework of the children. Conclusions: Teachers support children’s play based on the right understanding of interest to operate outdoor plays with children as active knowledge composers and figure out their preconceptions to offer a chance for voluntary investigation through percep- tive conflicts. Also, it is necessary to offer a chance for collaborative activities in order for children to reconstruct knowledge actively through interactions with their peer group.
