Life History Research of Female ACOAs Living with an Alcoholic Spouse

Objective: The study aims to explore the life history of ACOAs, and in this case, a woman whose father is an alcoholic and whose current spouse is an alcoholic. Methods: In-depth inter- views with three study participants were conducted and the data were analyzed by Mandelbaum's life history analysis method. Results: The dimensions of life include 'Grown-like child who is grown by oneself’', ‘Absolute solitude' and 'Life, not the main character'. The turnings are organized into “The end of the blind escape through marriage, repetition”, “A new door opened in a situation of difficulty in advancing and retreating”. The adaptations include “A community of learning to live”, “A different perspective for another life”, and “A hard effort to overcome inertia”. Conclusions: It is necessary to have a life-cycle perspective and a gender-sensitive perspective on children of alcoholics. in addition, the importance of establishing a support system is suggested.
