Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the direct effects of attachment ori- entation on adolescents’ life satisfaction and its indirect effects through basic psychological needs. Methods: This study involved 208 high school students who completed questionnaires about their attachment orientation, basic psychological needs, and life satisfaction. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0. Results: First, adolescents’ attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance did not have direct effects on life satisfaction. Second, satisfaction of the need for relatedness did not mediate the relationship between adolescents’ attachment orientation and life satisfaction. Third, satisfaction of the need for competence mediated the orientation and life satisfaction. Third, satisfaction of the need for competence mediated the relationship between attachment avoidance and life satisfaction. Fourth, satisfaction of the need for autonomy mediated the relationship between attachment anxiety and avoidance, and life satisfaction. Conclusions: These findings suggest that as adolescents experience higher levels of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance within intimate relationships, their sat- isfaction of the needs for competence and autonomy may be hindered, resulting in lower life satisfaction.
