뉴스 기사의 어휘 의미 사용 양상 분석

An Analysis of Lexical Semantic Usage Patterns in News Reports

이 연구는 미디어가 제공하는 정보의 언어 표현에서 의사소통의 오류를 줄이려는 목적으로 기술한 것이다. 동일한 언어 기호를 사용하더라도 뉴스 생산자(의도)와 소비자(해석) 사이에 의미상 오류가 발생할 수 있기 때문이다. 이 연구에서는 최근 뉴스에서 보도한 ‘오염수, 재활용, 반국가세력, 공산전체주의’ 등의 용어를 분석하여 그 의미를 파악하였다. ‘오염수’는 ‘처리수’, ‘핵폐수’ 등의 전문용어로 사용되지만, 화자의 평가 의도를 중심으로 동일한 의미로 사용되었다. ‘재활용’은 일상용어이지만, 뉴스 생산자가 스스로 새롭게 의미를 해석하여 독자를 혼란시키려는 의도가 있는 의미로 사용한 것이 확인되었다. ‘반국가세력’은 일상용어이지만, 특정 목적의 이념을 전파하기 위하여 발신자가 의도적으로 의미를 왜곡하여 전달하고 있었다. ‘공산전체주의’는 전문용어로서 그 의미가 매우 제한적이고 명확하게 설정되어야 함에도 불구하고 모호한 의미를 지닌채 사용되어 언어의 사회성을 위반하며 사용되었다. 이처럼 동일한 어휘도 뉴스에서 사용된 의미에서 차이가 발생하기 때문에 정보를 소비하는 독자는 미디어가 전달하는 언어 표현에서 특정한 용어의 개별적 의미를 정확하게 해석할 수 있어야만 한다. 그것이 왜곡된 뉴스에 현혹되지 않는 방법이기 때문이다.

This study aims at reducing communication errors in linguistic expressions provided by the media. As errors in meaning could occur because of some differences in what addressers intend and what recipients interpret between news reporters and consumers even they use the same linguistic signs. This paper analyzes ‘contaminated wastewater, recycling, antinational group, communist totalitarianism’ reported in recent news and finds out their meaning. ‘Contaminated wastewater’ is used identically with such technical terms as ‘treated wastewater’ and ‘nuclear wastewater’ considering the speakers’ assessment intention. ‘Recycling’ is an everyday word but news reporters have deliberately used it to confuse readers by interpreting its meaning anew. ‘Antinational group’ is also a general term but the speakers have intentionally distorted its meaning and delivered it to spread a specifically purposeful ideology. ‘Communist totalitarianism’ is a technical term and should be used limitedly and clearly but has been used with equivocal senses by violating social character of language. Seeing these terms have been used, readers who consume news should precisely interpret specific meaning of each word the media that deliver news use. That is the way not to be deluded by distorted news. Thus, the language users should be able to look into the meaning of specific word in linguistic expressions of news, grasp the sense and analyze its accuracy.
