This study aimed to investigate the patterns and characteristics of /ㅢ/ pronunciation errors among Mongolian Korean learners and develop foundational materials for /ㅢ/ pronunciation education targeted at this group. Word utterance experiments were conducted with Mongolian Korean learners to analyze the patterns and characteristics of pronunciation errors, focusing on syllable structure, preceding consonant presence, morpheme type, and word structure. The research findings revealed that gender did not significantly influence the error rate of /ㅢ/ pronunciation, indicating that male and female learners exhibited similar error rates. Concerning the specific patterns and characteristics of /ㅢ/ pronunciation errors, the study found a higher error rate in the word-initial position compared to the word-medial position. The error rate was particularly elevated when /ㅢ/ appeared in the word-initial position without a preceding consonant. However, the type of morpheme or the structure of the word did not significantly affect the error rate of /ㅢ/ pronunciation among Mongolian learners. These findings suggest that phonological factors, specifically the position of /ㅢ/ within the word, had the most substantial impact on pronunciation errors. Moreover, the study determined that morphological factors did not significantly contribute to the error rate. Overall, these results provide valuable insights into the pronunciation errors of /ㅢ/ among Mongolian Korean learners and can be utilized to develop effective educational materials aimed at enhancing /ㅢ/ pronunciation proficiency.
