The purpose of this study is to introduce the principles and the practice of developing Korean reading textbook series for high beginners and intermediate-level learners in Thailand. The textbook series consists of five content areas (Korean nature, Korean life, Korean history, Korean economy and society, and Korean culture). This study takes the domain topic of Korean nature as an example for proposing development principles and procedures, and chapter composition. As this textbook is aimed at learners who choose Korean as a second language in Thai secondary schools, the foreign language curriculum of the Thai Ministry of Education and the Korean language curriculum for primary and secondary schools overseas of the Korean Ministry of Education were reviewed to prepare teaching guidelines. The textbook development principles put emphasis on developing learner-centered localized textbooks, improving learners’ Korean reading skills and expanding language skills, cultivating cognitive skills and growing into global citizens, and securing learners’ access to textbooks and ease of learning. This textbook, developed to facilitate learners’ access to data, is published as an interactive e-book available on various devices to support autonomous learning.
