This study aims to evaluate the effects of teaching newspaper headlines based on conceptual metaphor for learners of Korean language. Newspaper headlines employ a wide range of symbols and metaphors, as well as omission, which may challenge learners’ target language comprehension. By the way, in the case of symbols and metaphors, it was expected that using a teaching-learning strategy applying conceptual metaphor would have a positive effect on Korean learners. In order to confirm the effects of teaching newspaper headlines based on conceptual metaphor, the average scores of the preand the post-test in the same group was compared. As a result of comparing the scores, a significant increase in scores after teaching was confirmed, and the effects of teaching newspaper headlines based on conceptual metaphor was verified. Though this study as a preliminary experiment was conducted, the limitation remains that it is a short-term experiment for a small number of participants. Nevertheless, it is meaningful that it has found complementary points in design for future research as a preliminary experiment. In addition, the significance of this study can be found in that it was confirmed with statistically significant figures that Korean language teaching based on the conceptual metaphor was effective and that the benefits of the teaching-learning process were heard from the experiment participants.
