Teaching Korean with BTS content

This study aims to show how to teach Korean language with BTS media content such as BTS songs and videos. The South Korean band BTS has gained tremendous popularity around the world, and a growing number of students want to learn Korean as a foreign language because they like BTS. As BTS is their major motivation in learning Korean, teaching Korean with BTS materials will help them keep their learning motivation. This paper presents what kind of media content on BTS can be used to teach Korean and explores the online platforms to find it. It then provides the actual examples of how BTS content has been used in a beginning level of Korean class at the university in Singapore. The effect of Korean class with BTS content is discussed from the students’ feedback and the teacher’s view. Based on these findings, the paper puts forward a suggestion on how to prepare and share Korean wave content as well as BTS content.
