This study aims to develop a chatbot as an assisting tool for teaching and learning Korean pragmatics. Although there are few chatbots and mobile-based tools that assist Korean language learning, the one focused on teaching and learning pragmatics does not exist. Therefore this study explores the utility of chatbot as a learning tool for pragmatics and proves it with an example of the refusal speech act. To accomplish this, the contents for the teaching refusal speech act were first selected and established based on the precedent research, and two open-source chatbot builders were used to develop the chatbot. In conclusion, it was determined that the chatbot is potentially valuable resource for assisting in teaching and learning a complicated speech act such as refusal.
