This paper is about five-year study of language errors that Korean learners have shown in writing high-quality Chinese, and focused on substitution errors with the highest error rate among them. Substitution errors have been frequently observed during five-year long research. The interference of mother tongue negatively affected the texts and resulted in high substitution errors. Transference in language accounted for more than two-thirds, much higher than transference between languages. Interlingual transfer was mainly caused by borrowing Korean expressions and Chinese characters, while intralingual transfer was classified as semantic and syntactic errors. This paper will provide a concrete example of overall linguistic errors and substitution errors that Korean learners made in writing high-quality Chinese language, and hope to help language learners to make progress from intermediate level to be more competent in their target language.
