The purpose of this study is to analyze the main factors affecting the motivation of Korean language learning of exchange students and to investigate the differences in learning motivation for individual variables of learners. The study conducted surveys on 76 exchange students, who enrolled the second semester of 2020. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted to validate the validity of the survey tools and extract factors. As the result of an exploratory factor analysis, six factors were extracted, which was 1) Ideal L2 self, 2) Ought-to L2 self, 3) Connection between future dream and Korean language, 4) Cultural interest, 5) Attitudes to learning L2, 6) Importance of learning foreign language. Through the analysis of surveys, it was found that the main motivating factors were ‘the importance of learning foreign language’ and ‘the cultural interest’. Also, there were significant difference in the learners’ motivation, according to their major, experience in learning Korean, experience in visiting Korea, the type of Korean class they participate, and the Korean level they think by themselves.
