This study examines which Korean monophthongs have to be corrected in the first place for the Vietnamese learners of Korean and how they can be corrected. The participants were required to listen to the words that contain the target vowels produced by the Vietnamese novice learners of Korean and choose which vowel is the closest to what they just heard. In the first experiment, which all 7 monophthongs were tested, the rate of the perception error was highest in /ㅜ/ and /ㅓ/. The 3 vowels whose rate of error was higher than the others were tested in the second experiment, and the result shows that when the native speakers of Korean discriminate those vowels from the others, F1 can be the more significant clue than F2.
