The purpose of this study is to examine the false friends of Korean and Spanish phraseological units(PhUs). We analyze the PhUs which contain body parts names that, at first glance, appear morphologically, syntactically and semantically very similar. However, according to a series of qualitative analysis, those PhUs are not absolute equivalents but reveal differences in its figurative meaning. Moreover, this study attempts to show the possibility of forming false friends if we do not take into account of the importance of pragmatic use of the phraseology and the sociocultural characteristics of linguistic communities. The approach is based on semantic criteria and aims to provide a common framework for the analysis of false friends which will help in learning Spanish phraseology or translation.
