라오스인 학습자를 위한 한국어 어두초성 장애음 발음 교육 연구

A Study on the Education of the Obstruent pronunciation at the initial of word for Lao Learners

The purpose of the study reported here was to investigate the pronunciation of Korean obstruents by Lao learners and to determine the relevant educational implications. To this end, Lao learners’ production of Korean obstruents was analyzed in terms of ‘VOT’, ‘pitch’, and ‘center of gravity’, as measured by the Praat- acoustic analysis program. Furthermore, Korean native speaking teachers gave judgments regarding errors. The data on Laos learners’ pronunciation was considered in terms of methods for the teaching of pronunciation among learners of Korean. The results of this study may be summarized in terms of four points. First, the pronunciation of the Lao learners showed the greatest difference with that of Korean native speakers in lax consonants of Korean, causing errors in pronunciation. Second, when teaching lax consonants, it is effective to decrease the amount of breath and pitch from aspirated consonants that also exist in the Lao language consonant system. Third, Korean obstruent sounds may more closely approach Lao obstruent sounds by using the Lao intonation marker. Finally, the slowest sounds in acquisition are the fricative /ㅅ/ and affricate /ㅈ/, requiring ongoing practice.
