In this paper, a text type-based translation method for Chinese translation in Korean language course books is presented using the concept of textuality. This study proposes a method for Korean-Chinese translations of language course books by subdividing the types of texts in Korean language materials and differentiating the translation method accordingly. To elaborate, informative translation is appropriate for vocabulary, expressions, grammar explanations; operative translation is appropriate for rubrics, expressive translation is appropriate for dialog texts. For dialogues, both expressive translations and informative translation can be used together to fully convey the communicational function of the dialogues. Based on these arguments, this study reviews the Chinese translation of “Sejong Korean 1, 2” of King Sejong Institute Foundation as an example, and points out the translation problems, and suggests some improving methods.
