This study aims at providing a development criteria for a learner-centered Korean textbook for overseas children, and for developing the textbooks with that criteria. The learner-centered textbooks encompass age factors and characteristics in the region for overseas children, which have been needed. In this study, the curriculum of local Korean language schools, the curriculum of public education, and the needs of teachers have been analyzed. The trial use and application of the textbooks have been provided for the textbook development. The two types of textbooks, “Customized Korean (for Chinese learners)” and “Customized Korean (for German learners)”, have been developed based upon the analysis, surveys, and the application methods that were suggested in the research. The results of the current study will be applicable in developing Korean textbooks for the overseas learners in diverse contexts. The textbooks developed in the study will be utilized in learner-centered Korean language education.
