This paper aims to inform teachers of Korean heritage children about text books so they are able to adapt and use them effectively. The development of Korean text books through the support of the government, general purpose text book development and then localized text books through individual languages have developed continuously and this is extremely encouraging. However, despite these efforts, Korean text books for Korean heritage children do not reflect various Korean language teaching and learning conditions and the continuing problem of many cases where the learner’s real life relevance decreases. This research suggests a way to adapt their education where opinions and demands from Korean teachers aren’t suited. When adapting text books, it is necessary to base it on one specific principle and in this paper it is Korean heritage children combined with their Korean text book issues, focusing on improvement through ‘Theme-centered approach’. Suitability is brought to light and based on this a check list that can diagnose adaptation of Korean text book requests and the direction of adaptation plans were developed in an adaptation method. Lastly, using this, adaptation of Korean text books for overseas Korean children was attempted.
