A Study of Perceptions and the Current Status of Homework Assignments in Korean Language Classrooms: focusing on regular programs in Korean language institutions affiliated with universities in Korea

The purpose of this research is to examine teachers’ and students’ perceptions and the current status of homework assignments in Korean language classrooms. Studies of Korean language education have been done in a variety of ways, but studies of Korean homework assignments have thus far been lacking. To obtain information about homework assignments in Korean language classrooms, two questionnaire surveys were given to 40 Korean instructors teaching in Korean language institutions affiliated with universities in Korea and 168 students enrolled in regular programs at those institutions. The responses from the students were analyzed according to their Korean language proficiency. The results of the research were analyzed in five parts: general perceptions, status of assigning homework assignments, feedback on homework assignments, and other comments and details provided by teachers and students. After analysis, this study has demonstrated that a larger variety of tasks should be assigned as homework. Also, in terms of feedback from teachers on homework assignments, more specific corrections and advice on how to correct their homework should be given.
