This study aims to explore beliefs about language learning of Vietnamese immigrant women as learners of Korean. It also aims to find the effects of proficiency and length of residence on learners’ beliefs about language learning. A total 258 learners participated in this study, and the ‘Beliefs About Language Learning Inventory(BALLI)’, which included 34 items on a Likert-type scale, was used to collect data. The findings show that learners were highly motivated, and they believed that their own efforts were much more important than their talents in learning language. Thus, they held quite optimistic beliefs about the future language progress. The findings reveal that the learners from the three groups of proficiency and length of residence hold many similar beliefs on language learning, but they also hold some different beliefs. The ANOVA and Post-hoc yield that the mean differences for certain items were statistically significant among the groups. These findings would be able to give useful information in planning language curriculum for Vietnamese immigrant women.
