This study consists of empirical research focused on learners’ attitude change in the field of individual difference studies of second language acquisition. The data were analyzed using the Modified-Grounded Theory Approach. It investigates on the attitude change process of the Korean Japanese learners towards Japanese people and culture. This study illuminates two different aspects of the learners trying to control the gap between expectation and reality. One aspect is explained in the category of “Japan as a collision field”, Another, “Japan as a reconciliation field.” This study uses the expression of [Safety distance control] to explain the attitude change process of the Korean Japanese learners towards Japanese people and Japanese society.
