This paper reviewed the contents and organizations of 9 different Korean learning materials published during the end of the 19th century, which includes ‘Corean Primer(1877)’ and ‘Siryong Haneohak(實用韓語學, 1902)’. This review covers the function of grammar section, the way of presenting translations, contents and organization of the text, and interlocutors in dialogue sections. The followings are the characteristics of the above materials revealed by the review. First of all, Korean learning materials were composed of presenting useful sentences focusing on grammar structures rather than having a central function as a foreign language learning textbooks. Secondly, the grammar section had been more strengthened in Korean learning materials. Thirdly, contents of conversations are usually organized based on topics but coherence based on topics were very low. Fourthly, most of the materials presented translations for Korean conversations. Lastly, interlocutors of dialogue sections or expected counterparts of given sentences were mostly from the same social group or the lower status.
