A Research on Learner Language: Error Analysis and Interlanguage Studies

The present study examined the current research trend of Error Analysis and Interlanguage studies on learner language. The 109 studies were collected for analysis including journal articles, doctoral dissertation, and book chapters. The research questions were as below; (1) What is the learner language? Is it errors to be corrected, or interlanguage which has a structure itself? (2) How can the themes of the studies be evaluated in terms of research diversity? (3) Are the research methods appropriate and scientific enough to conduct the studies on learner language? Searching these research questions, the present study will analyze the outcomes of previous studies and put forward the directions to pursue. Above all, the present study scrutinizes the research perspectives on learner language, searches for the compatible research methods, and claims that we need to theorize the collected research findings over the years.
