The extensive reading means reading a lot of easy, enjoyable books. In the extensive reading, students do self-selected reading. Therefore, it is very important to select materials for successful extensive reading activities. This paper is for selecting materials and coding reader levels for the extensive reading activities in Korean language education. For this goal, this paper firstly will establish general criteria for selecting materials, and secondly will propose factors for selecting materials. The factors for selecting materials are as follows: 1) Learner Factors - appropriate language level(vocabulary, structures), motivation(arouse curiosity) 2) Subject Factors - the relevance to the curriculum, suitability of context, authenticity, exploitability 3) Formal Factors - the size of books(pages), illustrations. And thirdly, we have conducted a survey about learner factors for selecting materials. On the basis of the criteria of selecting materials, we selected 250 reading materials that based on lots of various texts, and graded these things into each degree of their difficulty. Finally, it is expected that this study might contribute to selecting various materials for the extensive reading in Korean language education.
