The aim of this study is to analyze Korean as a second language students’ perceptions of Korean nonnative teachers. The present study utilizes a “discourse analytic” method in order to analyze the essays that 28 first level Chinese students wrote on the differences between native and nonnative Korean language teachers. Every statement in the Students’ essays was coded and then grouped by theme. The analysis shows positive and negative statements for each of the themes emerged. Results show that the students evaluate positively both native and nonnative teachers but on different therms. Native teachers are preferred for the teaching of speaking and listening skills and for the teaching of culture, while nonnative teachers are preferred for the teaching of grammar and for the help that can give to students thanks to their experience as learners. The results can be applied to improve native teacher/nonnative teacher collaboration and team teaching.
