A Study on 'Jo-seon-eo-yeok' at Hattori Collection in Waseda University

Hattoribungo (服部文庫) of Waseda University in Japan has a lot of books left by the scholar of the Edo period, Hattori nangaku(服部南郭). Joseoneoyeok(朝鮮語譯) was found in Hattorimungo(服部文庫) by Kishida Humitaka(岸田文隆), Prof. of Osaka University, for the first time. Joseoneoyeok seems that was a textbook used in Japan to learn Korean language, and what is more, it is similar to Ineodaebang(隣語大方) which was a textbook of Japanese, used in Sayeokwon(司譯院) - the national institution of foreign languages - of Joseon Dynasty. This material was made earlier than Ineodaebang(1790), and the contents are very similar with it. This book is likely to manuscript that was created in the early stage of the establishment of Ineodaebang. This research deals with bibliographic approach of Joseoneoyeok and the relation between Joseoneoyeok and Ineodaebang. Joseoneoyeok contains various historical facts from the beginning of the 18th century to the middle, as Joseontongsinsa (朝鮮通信使). In addition, that book was revised by people who wants to learn Korean language, and in the process, it was changed the name to Ineodaebang. Since the mid-18th century, Ineodaebang imported to Joseon and was published in print.
