The purpose of this study is to suggest of an introduction of introductory lessons in Korean language teaching, which reflects the characteristics of adult learners. To reach the goal of this study, first, we reviewed the characteristics of adult learners and distributed a survey to do needs analysis. Next, we derived the characteristics of adult second language learning based on them and examined the textbooks to see whether or not they contain the introductory lessons, and what the contents are, if they do. Later, we suggested the contents of the introductory lessons in Korean language teaching. At last, another survey was employed to investigate learners’ evaluation of introductory lessons. Several meanings of this study can be found as follows: Firstly, this is the first attempt to conduct a study on organization of Korean language textbooks from the viewpoint of ‘characteristics of adult learners.’ Secondly, it suggests the introduction of an introductory course with its contents in Korean language teaching. Finally, it testifies that the introduction of introductory lessons satisfies learners’ intellectual desire and motivates them for the forthcoming learning.
