This study focuses on the analysis of 25 storytelling task samples produced in English and Korean by Korean learners of English. By concentrating on the story grammar (Stein & Glenn, 1979) of narratives, the current study examines how storytelling task performance differs between two groups with and without storytelling practice. This study also explores how learners‘ storytelling proficiency in English may correlate with that in Korean. Two measures of content were used to analyse storytelling proficiency samples: story grammar model and episode level. Considering the cultural differences with native language and target language in various tasks of storytelling, the educational implications in storytelling were discussed.
