Researches on Governance of NPOs since 1990s: Characteristics and Future Research Agenda

비영리 조직이 사회적 역할을 효과적으로 수행하기 위해서는 이를 뒷받침 할 수 있는 지배구조를 갖추어야 한다. 비영리 조직의 지배구조에 대한 연구는 1990년대 전후를 시작으로 지난 30여 년 동안 진행되어 오고 있으며, 이들 지배구조에 대한 연구들은 주로 영미의 연구자들에 의해 주도되었다. 또한 연구대상도 미국과 영국 등에 주로 국한되었고, 영리(기업)조직을 위해 논의된 지배구조 이론을 중심으로 이뤄지고 있다. 이와 더불어 비영리 조직의 지배구조에 대한 연구는 주로 ‘이사회’를 중심으로 한 연구로 이뤄지고 있다는 특징을 보이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 1990년대 이후 외국의 문헌에서 이뤄진 영미중심의 비영리조직의 지배구조에 대한 연구들의 특징과 분석을 통해 향후 한국의 비영리조직의 지배구조에 대한 국내연구의 방향을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다.

Good governance is very required for successful social role of nonprofit organizations. Since early 1990s, a lot of research on governance of npos have been mainly led by U.S.-British scholars and have been focused on U.S. and U.K.nonprofit organizations. Another characteristics of the past research on governance of npos has been carried out centering on the role of board of directors, mainly using models developed for profit organizations. The main purpose of this paper, based on the analysis of the research papers of the past 30 years, is to suggest research agenda for Korean researchers who have strong interest on the study of governance of Korean nonprofit organizations.
