Foreign graduate students could not easily discriminate between oral academic presentations and daily oral narratives. They don’t recognize genre-based differences. They tend to use the target-language-like usage at the beginning and ends of their oral presentations. However, in the body, they show non-target-languagelike usage. In structuring the body, their presentations show by the use of conventional expressions, a lack of background descriptions and appropriate metaphors (or anecdotes) for supporting the main idea, insufficient command of attention, and using non-verbal communication devices. In this paper, I will focus on the various aspects of academic oral presentations by foreign graduate students and how they are distinguished from the presentations of Korean graduate students and Korean language learners for academic purposes, with educational perspectives. In my research, I videotaped and transcribed the whole presentations. In addition, I use a qualitative approach with doing interviews and partially checking the frequency.
