The Effect of Direct and Indirect Feedback on the Postpositional Mistakes: Targeting on Vietnamese Learners

This study aimed at how the teacher's negative feedback had effect on acquiring postpositions of Vietnamese learners by observing and analyzing the learners’ pattern longitudinally. A study on the effectiveness of the direct feedback and the indirect feedback from an instructor to learners revealed that there is a significant difference between them. (1) The result showed that the direct feedback was more effective than the other in helping the learners make fewer postpositional mistakes for a short period. (2) It was proved that the indirect feedback had more positive effects on learners for a long period. (3) By studying patterns of the Application of Postpositions, it was proved that direct feedback contributed to increases in items of postpositions, whereas indirect feedback was more efficient in terms of increases in the number of applications.
