A Research on the Patterns of Korean Nominalizer {-eum} and {-ki} for Korean language teaching

This study aims to show that the usage pattern is necessary in teaching Korean language to foreign students, especially in teaching the Korean nominalizer {-eum} and {-ki}. For this purpose, the method to extract the usage patterns of the Korean nominalizer {-eum} and {-ki} from large-scale corpora is examined and the list of those usage patterns is shown. Until recently, {-eum} and {-ki} have been recognized that these nominalizers should be taught to foreign students mainly with their meaning and function or with the verbs which co-occur with these nominalizers. But this idea does not ensure the effective results from the Korean language learners. In this paper, it is proposed that the usage pattern, which include the nominalizer {-eum} or {-ki}, should be taught in chunk unit. For this, I devise the method of drawing up the patterns of {-eum} and {-ki} through the examination of the Sejong Corpus which is composed of ten million words of Korean and present the list of the patterns of {-eum} and {-ki}.
