A Chart for Conjugating Verbs in the Present Indicative tense in Spanish: Analysis of the High School Spanish Textbooks

The conjugated verbs in Spanish are very complicated and innumerable. Most students, specially high school students, who learn Spanish have scruples about memorizing the conjugated verbs in different tenses and moods. To save their trouble, our study aims to suggest a new chart for conjugating verbs in the Spansh present indicative tense, that will be called here “conjugation chart with stress axis”. This stress axis refers to a line connected according to the vowels of stress syllables in each conjugation set. Before applying it to the present indicative tense, we have analyzed some high school Spanish textbooks. Between various conjugation chart forms of those textbooks that are in disorder, the best form is “1 column 6 rows - left align - adhered endings form”. We try to overlap the stress axis on it. Finally, the conjugation chart with stress axis will allow the students to understand properly how to conjugate regular or irregular verbs in the present indicatve tense with the stress axis suggested by this study, and memorize it effectively.
