Steady progress has been made in research for the uses of colloquial language and written language in Korean language education as well as in skill-specific Korean language education, material development, Korean language proficiency tests, grammar and vocabulary. However, in teaching communication, unlike the progress made in colloquial and written languages, there in lies a significant gap in needed research on the role of non-verbal communication as well as the application of this role in Korean language education. In this study, various non-verbal communication were selected and categorized in a list format. Then researchers looked into ways to apply them in Korean language teaching. We created two parts for the list of non-verbal communication. First, there is the list of non-verbal communication according to body parts for easy access for instructors. The other list is based on communication-specific situations. These divisions are useful for materials development and situation-specific lesson creation. Furthermore, we provided a guideline on the application of this list for in-class use and for other teaching environments. This study explores the means to integrate non-verbal communication into Korean language education and to invite new discussions to find new and effective ways to teach non-verbal communication.
