The purpose of this paper is to investigate and deal with issues and concerns surrounding Korean language education overseas. I shall first establish the identity of the persons involved: Koreans and their descendants (“hyphenated Koreans”) living abroad. In addition I will explore in-depth curricula used in and the current circumstances of the major cities worldwide - the U..S., China, CIS areas and Japan where Korean immigrants have settled. On this premise, the writer wishes to propose recommendations to solve the issues raised in the paper. These recommendations will consider the needs and the special circumstances that surround these areas as well as other future prospects for the improvement of Korean language education abroad will be discussed.
