Although we want to teach effectively to foreign student, we do not have enough teaching method in vocabulary area. Especially, in the case of symbolic words the selection of vocabulary presented in texts are different according to the Korean Language Institute. Moreover there is no systematic teaching order and teaching method, in spite of its importance. These are caused by several reasons. First, symbolic words are not basic words. Without these foreigners do not have difficulty in communicating. Second, these are secondary elements in sentence. But ‘communicative competence’ does not restricted to grammatical ability. When someone speaks foreign language fluently, it includes not only grammatical fluency but also pragmatic fluency. Symbolic words are important to communicate in view of adequate expression and minute expression. So, the focus of my study is to present symbolic words, and then, to set up teaching model. To teach an onomatopoeic word first of all is necessary. By knowing the semantic difference according to vowel and consonant change, it is possible to approach mimetic words. And about a mimetic words, I propose to teach first the words which has strong syntatic relation.
